The area surrounding Wyboo Plantation is steeped with rich history.

One of the most unique area historical notations is the fact that the first of five court cases combined into Brown v. Board of Education, happened in the area.  Briggs v. Elliott, later combined into the Brown case helped sway the U.S. Supreme Court decision to officially overturn racial segregation in U.S. public schools.

Manning, SC, is the county seat of Clarendon County since 1855. Clarendon County was named for the Earl of Clarendon, one of the Eight Lords Proprietors of England, to whom Carolina was given as a land grant. Clarendon County was formed in 1785 and has been prominent in the history of our nation, producing five South Carolina governors and many prominent people in politics, arts and literature, and the military.

Lake Marion is the largest lake in South Carolina.  It and Lake Moultrie were created as a Works Progress Administration project in the 1930’s and 40’s.  The lands around Lake Marion are rich in history.  It is land once planted in rice and still planted in cotton; land roamed by Native Americans and by the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion.
